What do Angry E-mails and Energy Work have in Common?

For most of us energy work is a difficult concept to wrap our minds around. In Western society, we are so driven by the masculine that it’s always go go go. In other words, we have to do A in order to get to B. Energy work, however, houses in the more subtle realm.

In Japan, where reiki energy healing originated about 100 years ago, the idea of energy or the invisible energetic realm is embedded culturally while most Western societies do not believe in such concepts. Yet, we all experience energy every day–even in our tech-driven environments. We are just not aware of it.

Reiki, in its origin was performed by hands-on healing and via intention. When demand got so high, Mikao Usui, the founder of Japanese Usui reiki, would send reiki through his hands or with his mind’s eye to treat several people at the same time, some of whom wouldn’t even be in the same room with him. Today, people might assume that distance energy healing is a fairly new concept, but as the above example shows, it is not.

When people ask me, how does distance reiki work, I tell them the following examples. Picture yourself in front of the computer. You open an email from an angry co-worker who tried his best to sound cordial while in reality they are super upset with you. Their words don’t say it, but immediately when you start reading the email you get this feeling of discomfort. You sense something is wrong. Their energy was transferred to you, although subconsciously and with the intent to hide their anger, it was still received by you.

Now, this was not deliberately, but you get angry and might even send an angry response back. Similarly, an angry voice mail. Say it’s been on your mailbox and you didn’t get to listen to it until days later, yet, once you do, you still get the sense that the person is angry, you might even have a physical reaction to it. Sure, the anger could be expressed in the words that were chosen, but regardless of whether their words sounded angry or not, the energy was transferred to you, and received, even days later.

So, imagine now that someone sends you healing energy with intent. This comes from a person who clears their space, their aura, and mind before doing so. Imagine how powerful that can be. This is exactly what distance reiki is, sending healing energy with intent to a person for the purpose of their well-being and healing.
